Confession of a Wollondilly P Driver

March 24, 2012

It was mid afternoon and the weather was fine as I was cruising at my normal free-way speed of 95kmh when I approached a slower moving light truck and I decided to overtake by increasing my speed, the time lapse of day dreaming escaped me to notice what speed I was doing

Bright lights on the F5 free-way resembled a space ship

Terror set in as the lights got closer and my car came to a stop

A shadow appeared at the side of my car and within seconds I could hardly see light of day

As the figure leaned forward and inquired; what was the reason I was exceeding the 100 kmh speed limit

I gulped in embarrassment and humility as I looked up at the tall figure who was holding a device which recorded my speed

I tried to speak but nothing came out while I struggled with my mind racing with thoughts which did not make sense

I could not feel my body as the sensation of fear engulfed me like a cloud of mist

I could see the mouth moving as he was lecturing me for being a reckless driver endangering other motorist at a high speed, I was frozen speechless

My fine was $1100 with a three month suspension also the embarrassment of having to phone my parents to pick me up from the road side

As I regained my hearing I could see the rage in the Policeman's face as he furiously said 'your parents are coming to pick you up' and if I had not stopped you it was possible your parents would have to scrape you up from the road “you are a disgrace to the safer P drivers who are doing the right thing, it is you who give the rest of the P drivers a bad name and you should be ashamed to even think you can drive properly.

The episode of my flying experience was as if I were abducted by Aliens and I was then in custody of my parents with a silence as I sat in the back seat, the bright lights faded & the blood rushed to my head while I realised the stupidity of my actions because I will now have to beg for a lift where ever I need to go.

There is one constellation in my favor; 'I am still alive" I am not broke up in Hospital & I have the choice to amend my attitude during the three months wait to get my licence back

I was a Time Bomb With a Green P Plate not paying attention

Not even thinking It won't happen to me

But I am living proof that I was A Dick Head

There are other Dick Heads who were Not So Lucky to get caught by the Police

Learner Log Book Mistakes

Wollondilly u turn the wheel for learners providing incorrect information to learners & mismanagement of Log Book entries plus providing voluntary supervision without qualification to increase hours in the log book

It seems to be a field day on the P driver when they have an accident and yet everyone with a voice in condemnation of the young driver will not put their hand up and say they would pass a driving test themselves,
or be willing to put their hand up to say they have taken an advanced driving course

People with a voice seem to forget that they are the mentors of driving behavior every time they drive
People with a voice may be parents of their own children but are willing to point the finger at other parent’s children as being the uneducated driver

I would challenge any person who thinks they have the skill to pass a driving assessment equal to a learner driver standard which I require a learner to qualify before taking a driving test
Time and time again I have to advise parents that their son / daughter is not ready to be driving on their own but may pass the test through persistent concentration but the response is often that the parent wants the learner to get the licence because the parent is fed up with driving them to all the events.
Then there is the parent who participates with the progress and sits in the car for 30 minutes while I instruct the student.
There are many factors related to driver safety and I would like to see everyone who has held a licence for the past 10 years to take a driver assessment to refresh their skill and attitude before pointing a finger at other drivers

This is important to learners achieving the qualifying hours & the correct way to enter the Structured Lesson Record Keeper & Log Book The truth is: a learner may take as many lessons as they desire and it is best to learn the correct way for a lifetime experience. Remember: you can learn how to do anything wrong and be good at it if you practice enough. I ask you this question! how many years are you teaching your children to observe your driving & then letting them practice what you have demonstrated? Don't blame driver education for your mistakes
